What Has Been Done (only a few things are listed)

• The US Fish and Wildlife Services Program, listed the Siberian Tiger as "endangered," according to ,the Endangered Species List in 1973 and was also listed as "endangered" on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (4).
• In 1992, the Siberian Tiger Project was founded (8).
• Tigers are included on CITES Appendix I, which bans their international trade (16).
• Siberian tigers were the first of the 8 tiger subspecies to have their genome sequenced. This may help if Siberian tiger breeding is taken into human hands (15).

What Needs to be Done

1. Habitat conservation!
• Create a biosphere in Amur tiger's range that includes: core reserves, habitat corridors and buffer zone (includes the indigenous of the area) that allows certain levels of resource harvesting.

• Reduce development into the Amur tiger's range.
• 5 Key Features of a Good Reserve (14) which must be the basis of reserves in the Siberian tiger's range.
• Good Enforcement
• No Harvesting (no take or over-exploitation)
• Isolated by Geography
• Large (ideal size is about 100 square km)
• Old ( > 10 years)
2. Crack down on hunting/poaching!
• Completely halt the illegal trade of Amur tiger body parts.
• Increase fine amounts and jail-time
• Seize all Siberian tiger body parts
• Increase security on the reserves and in the Amur tiger's range
3. Use the sequenced genome to selectively breed and increase the genetic diversity of the population!

• Become a conservation biologist and focus on the Siberian Tiger population!
• Educate yourself about the Siberian Tiger and the illegal trade of animals!
• Enlighten others with your new found knowledge!
• Adopt a Siberian Tiger through the WWF!
• Stop Wildlife Crime and speak up if you see it happening!
